Friends of the City Churches Walk

St Giles Cripplegate

The Friends of the City Churches (FOCC) are organizing walks visiting City churches at 10.30 am and 1.30pm on Saturday 10 May.  Susan Gane will be leading morning and afternoon walks visiting St Mary le Bow, St Botolph Aldersgate and St Giles Cripplegate.

Sir John Betjeman said 'Before the Fire of London in 1666 there were ninety-seven parish churches within the walls of the City of London.  Fifty-one were rebuilt by Sir Christopher Wren and new ones were built in the 18th and 19th centuries.  Today a mere thirty-eight survive and each one is worth a visit.'  Each year FOCC  organize walks on two days in May and July, giving the public an opportunity to see a wide variety of City churches.

Walks start from St Mary Aldermary at the foot of Bow Lane near Mansion House London Underground Station and will take around an hour and a half   The cost is £7 for one walk and £12 for two walks on the same day (£6 and £10 for FOCC members). Click here for a provisional list of the churches that are planned to open on Saturday 10 May and on Wednesday 2 July respectively.
